Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Who chooses the activities and outings?
A.
We do.  If you want to coordinate an outing in the future, come to our monthly meeting and place the outing on the calendar.  If you want to do a spur-of-the-moment outing, send a message to the group e-mail and see if others want to join you.

Q.  When and why was TOWN formed?
A.
We are an offshoot of the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program sponsored by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.  We were formed in 1992 so that women attending the BOW weekends could continue to participate in their new-found interests with women of similar interests after they returned home.  We provide a kind, fun, supportive environment for women to enjoy outdoor activities.

Q.  What happens at the monthly meetings?
A.
We gather each month to learn new skills or knowledge that add depth to our outings.  Meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month. Please see our home page for specific dates and speakers.  You do not need to be a member to attend our meetings.  In fact, we would love to meet you at a meeting!  Please consider yourself invited.

Q.  Who can go on outings?
A.
Usually anyone. There may be age or proficiency restrictions for some activities.  To go on the outing, contact the person coordinating the event.  You must RSVP for all events so we know how many people are going and who to expect.  Most outings are for women, so please check with the trip leader to see if men, children, or pets are allowed on a particular outing.

Q.  Why should I become a member?
A.
Members receive a membership listing via email with contact information for other members.  This information enables you to easily contact women you have met on TOWN activities.  Your dues also support the general expenses of the club: post office box, web hosting and domain name registration services, checking account, meeting location, and publicity.
