Visiting begins at 6 pm with our business meeting following at 6:30. Our speaker begins at 7.

Karen Hoffman Blizzard will give a presentation on mountain-biking and hiking at Big Bend Ranch State Park. Highlights will include a “map tour” of the park’s layout and geological features; tips for preparing for the park’s signature event, Chihuahuan Desert Bike Fest; and easy-to-access day hikes in the park.

As a communications professional she wrote extensively about state parks, and led hikes and mountain-biking rides at Becoming an Outdoors-Woman weekend workshops. As a member of the team that implemented the public use plan for Big Bend Ranch State Park, she participated in trail building, wrote numerous articles for TPW magazine including the award-winning “Mountain Biking Dream Ride,” and co-authored the park’s Biking Guide. She also publicized and worked as a Bike Patrol member for Chihuahuan Desert Bike Fest, which has been produced by Desert Sports and TPWD every February since 2011. In October 2017, Texas Highways magazine published her article about hiking in and around the Sauceda area of Big Bend Ranch State Park.
