Camping in Palmetto State Park, February 14-18, 2019
Feb 14 @ 1:00 pm – Feb 18 @ 12:00 pm

Camping at Palmetto State Park, February 14 – 18, 2019

To RSVP contact, LindaBW .

Please come participate in the campout that draws many of our members each year.  This a small yet beautiful park between Luling and Gonzales, Tx.   Even if you’re not a camper it is a nice day trip from Austin.  Our dear friends JudyL and MarilynF introduced me to this park several years ago and I feel drawn to it annually.

As most of you know there are a limited number of water/ electric spaces available.  These dates include Presidents Day; if we don’t fill the park someone else will….book early!

Make your campground reservation via the TPWD Reserveworld.com or call 512-389-8900.

Even though the Luling paddling trail is near, the weather hasn’t always been conducive to kayaking in February so activities will be determined as the dates get closer. Usually many ladies practice their dutch oven skills at this outing and we all reap the rewards. And then (of course) the troublemakers among us get locked up at the historic Gonzales jail!

Pencil it in! Get booked!  See you there!

For questions, contact LindaBW.

Daytime Kayaking – Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019
Feb 21 @ 11:00 am

What:  Daytime Kayaking

For questions or to RSVP, contact:  LindaF

Time:  10:45 am

We’ll meet at the Rowing Dock (www.rowingdock.com) at 10:45 hoping to be on the water by 11 am.  Bring water and whatever gear you think will suit the weather of the day, and $15 (cash is preferred).  This will rent you a kayak, paddle, and life jacket for two hours of the best stress relief in Austin.

You will enjoy the flat-water paddling even if it is your first time on the water.  The staff of the Rowing Dock is experienced in getting our stiff legs and sore backs into and out of the boats and no one has ever fallen in the water.  They never laugh, although some of our companions are not above taking photos.

If you have your own boat, you can put in at the back of the Rowing Dock at no charge, and will need to be wearing a life jacket to sign in on the TOWN outing.  One of us will come over until you are successfully launched, and join the group.  We either paddle around Redbud Island in the direction of the Tom Miller Dam, or we’ll head in the other direction toward downtown, sometimes with an excursion toward Barton Springs.

Lunch will follow, selected by the interests of whoever is there.

Monthly Meeting, Tuesday, February 26, 2019
Feb 26 @ 6:00 pm – 8:15 pm

Monthly meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month. The location is the Northwest Recreation Center at 2913 Northland Dr, 78757. Enter the front doors, look left, and you will see and hear us.

Visiting begins at 6 pm with our business meeting following at 6:30. Our speaker begins at 7.

Our agenda is typically the following:  bring your brown-bag dinner or a snack; we gather at 6 pm & socialize; 6:30-7:00 greetings, introductions, business, outings reports and planning; 7- 8 speaker; 8 – 8:15 adjournment and cleanup.

Our speaker is Hayley Hudnall from Austin Wildlife Rescue.  Ms. Hudnall will share stories and the how-to steps of Wildlife Rescue.  She will be talking about AWR and what the organization does.  She’ll share fun facts about wildlife, show some interesting animal pictures, and also talk about what to do if you find a wild animal.

Hayley has a Bachelor’s in Wildlife and Fisheries from Texas A&M University and a Master’s in Wildlife Ecology from Texas State University.  She started working with AWR in 2006 and has been the Director since 2016.  She’s seen the growth of the organization and the yearly increase in the number on animals brought to the intake center.  She’s excited about opening the new rehabilitation facility in Elgin in 2019.

Join us and bring a friend!
