Wes Cooksey County Park March 29 – April 4, 2023
Mar 29 @ 12:00 pm – Apr 4 @ 1:00 pm

When: Wed/March/29 – Tuesday/April 4/2023

Where: Wes Cooksey County Park on TX-55, north of Uvalde, TX

Outing Leader: MariaV

Reservations: all reservations and payments will be made through the outing leader.

I will need to know who is attending by the end of January and have to send deposit by Feb/15. After that, you can go on a waiting list in case that anyone cancels.

Description of the park and cost: The TENT sites are close to the lake edge formed by the Nueces River dam. The view is incredible (I am including a picture in my email). There are water and electric hook-ups on each site. The bathrooms are close by. We will TENT in adjacent sites so that we can stay together. The cost depends on how many attend and how many sites we end up renting. One site will cost $140/week. Three or more people in a site is additional $5 per camper. The park management only allows 2 vehicles per site. This will require some planning and compromising, but it will be all worthwhile. Hook ups for RVs are in the opposite side of the park and must be reserved separately.

Activities: You can swim, kayak or fish at the lake. Other nearby attractions include Kickapoo Cavern SP, Las Moras Spring, Devil’s River SP and Seminole Canyon. Plenty of scenic hiking trails, and biking trails, bird watching, swimming, and tubing opportunities. More information and planning closer to the trip.

Safety issue: There is NO lifeguard at this county park for the lake. Life jackets are required when kayaking, fishing, and tubing. And helmets are required when biking.

If you want to participate in this event, go to Meetup for more details.

Include questions that will make you more at ease with attending this trip.

What: Annual Outdoor Women Gone Wild – classes held on Saturday April 22- Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Kimball County in Junction, Texas. For TOWNies who will be attending the event, Carrie has secured camping on privately owned property For the weekend.

The link below takes you to information about the Kimball county event and registration for the Saturday, April 22 Outdoor Women Gone Wild classes.

Host: Carrie L.

RSVP: Meetup

Since my favorite state park is full, I have arranged for those TOWNies who will be attending the Kimball County Outdoor Women Go Wild event to dry camp (camp primitive – without water, electric, or bathrooms) on a privately owned property with access to the river. Cost will be $20 per night X 3 nights. There’s room for approximately 10 RVs (also dry camping), and room for many tents to camp. We will be following the leave no trace, pack it in, pack it out rule.

Bring your own food, drink, meals, etc.

Here’s the plan:
Arrive on Thursday, April 20 and get set up.
Friday, April 21 – possibly go birding at the state park in the morning (will require you getting a day pass reservation from TPWD). Bring binoculars!
Then, mid-day, plan on going kayaking (weather permitting). Bring your own kayak, life jacket, etc.
Then, Friday evening – maybe attend some of the event goings-on in town if we’re not too tired.
Saturday – all day at the event! Then, back to camp.
Sunday – depart

Please RSVP right away, especially if you want to come and camp in your RV, as I need to finalize the numbers of campers with this property owner.

Hoping to see a lot of you there!
