Meet Me at the Springs!
Sat., July 13, 9am-12:30pm
RSVP to Meetup: https://www.meetup.com/TOWN-Austin/events/261959302/
What: Barton Springs Refresher
Where: Barton Springs Pool, South Gate Hillside
Who: All TOWNies, partners, kids
Why: It’s yours, you pay for it, see and feel and hear the joy
Description: In the mornings, Barton Springs Pool is a most delightful place. The swim jocks have left for their lattes, the parking area at the South Entrance on Azie Morton Road (formerly known as Robert E. Lee Road) still has spaces, and many sweet families are enjoying the refreshing jolt of your aquifer waters, sans sunscreen. I’ll spread a towel and sit on the shady hill to enjoy the screams and laughter of Austinites, international visitors, and brave TOWNies. We will hang out wet and cool, then, if anyone’s interested, slip away in one car to Shady Grove, Chuy’s, the food trailers, Green Mesquite, or farther to Matt’s El Rancho.
Every year your spring-fed pool wins the Chronicle’s “Best of Austin” award for people-watching. Come watch with me.
Bring: Pool admission, swim suit, towel, hat, sunglasses, goggles, snorkel, lunch money, water, lawn chair/blanket.
Do Not Bring the following into Pool area: Food, ice chest, or beverages other than water. NO glass containers!
Details: The admission for COA residents and non-residents are as follows:
Adult (18-62 years) | $5 | $9 |
Senior (62 years and older) | $2 | $5 |
Other age group fees are posted at http://www.austintexas.gov/page/pool-fees-rentals.
There is a ticket kiosk at the entrance where you can purchase admission tickets with a credit/debit card.
More Details: If you want to make a long day of it, the Hillside Theater show in the evening is “The Little Mermaid,” http://zilker.org/mermaid/.
If you plan to bring kids, you might explain to them that some people like to even out their tans at Barton’s.
