Our agenda is typically the following:  bring your brown-bag dinner or a snack; we gather at 6 pm & socialize; 6:30-7:00 greetings, introductions, business, outings reports and planning; 7- 8 speaker; 8 – 8:15 adjournment and cleanup.

Our speaker is Daphne Richards who will discuss soil bio-communities and our agri-future.  Ms. Richards, Agricultural Extension Agent, Master Gardener Coordinator, and a host of Central Texas Gardener on PBS.

Getting to Know Soil is for the passionate planter or an ambivalent admirer; the soil beneath your feet is a critical resource of nature. Consisting of billions of macro- and microorganisms that make or break plant nutrition, our soil has remarkable elements that hint at medicinal and communicative wonders.  Ms. Richards will show you some examples.

Daphne Richards received her BA in botany from The University of Texas at Austin and her MS in horticulture from Texas A&M.  Her primary responsibilities include leading educational programming in the areas of home horticulture and urban agriculture, as well as for professionals in the green industry.  She also serves as coordinator of the local Master Gardener program, training and managing over 200 very active Master Gardener volunteers.  She may be seen each week on KLRU in the award-winning television program Central Texas Gardener.   You can follow her Tweets and you can “like” her horticulture information on Facebook.  You might also catch her around town at various gardening events with Augie, her sweet little Dachshund puppy.  If you do, please say hi!
