Five fortunate females put in at Lady Bird Lake on Wednesday, Sept. 7th, finding the water as glassy as any of us had ever seen.
Led by Linda F; Debbie W, Anna E, Gloria W and Stephanie N all seemed glad to be there. The hanging bunches of autumn clematis on the banks smelled wonderful even at some distance, as we paddled at a leisurely pace toward Red Bud Isle. Racing crews cut through the center of the waterway, with their accompanying coach boats buzzing up behind. A loon we had seen on previous trips popped up for a visit, and two egrets, a heron, assorted turtles and some ducks were also present. As we returned, downtown Austin was beautifully lit up by the setting sun against a backdrop of approaching very dark clouds. We paddled a bit more briskly! Fortunately, the rain didn’t arrive until we disembarked, and we enjoyed the food and each others’ company at the Green Mesquite as the storm blew through.
Join TOWN for another kayaking outing this Thursday, Sept. 15th at 8:00am at The Rowing Dock. Cost is only $15 for a couple of hours, and it’s a beautiful float. Highly recommend! Stephanie N
