We welcome speakers on various outdoor related topics at every monthly meeting. If you have expertise on a topic or know of someone who does, please contact us.
Hi everyone, I know it maybe crazy to be thinking about our Holiday Party in January 2024, but here we are almost 5 months out. Mark your calendars and to get ready to reserve your camp site. All the details of our annual Holiday Party are below. You won’t want to miss this FUN event!
**NOTE: Camping sites open for reserving August 13 or earlier if you plan to start your camping adventure earlier than January 13. Let’s try to fill up the Grapevine Loop first.
For those coming out just for the TOWN Holiday Party on Saturday: You do not have to get a park day pass ahead of time. You can pay for it when you come in on Saturday, and park at the dining hall. Since we have reserved the hall, up to 70 people can park in the hall parking lot. This is even if the park is full for day use.
Also reminding those over 65, who don’t have a park pass, you can get a Senior Partial Passport for free that discounts your park admission to 50%. You can get these at any state park, and it can’t be done online. So, the holiday party would be a good time to get one. There are other park passes you can check out at https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/passes/park-passes/#texas-parklands-passport. The regular park pass is $70 annually.
Where: The Dining Hall in McKinney Falls State Park; park entry is at 5805 McKinney Falls Parkway; get directions when you enter.
Times: We have the Dining Hall reserved from 10 am – 9 pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
What: TOWN Austin Holiday Party – Potluck Lunch to start between 1:00-2:00. This event is a great opportunity to meet, visit, exchange our lively White Elephant gifts, and participate in our annual gear and clothing exchange, so bring any outdoor equipment/clothing you don’t want any more to put in the exchange.
The plan is to have a potluck lunch, so bring your favorite holiday dish to share. We will eat inside. If you prefer to bring your own food to eat, feel free to do so.
***you can bring your dish to the dining hall as early as 10:00.

I have gotten to know a local land owner out there who would love for us to camp at her place. Nothing fancy, but a place to pitch a tent, and practice “becoming an outdoors-woman”. We will not have utilities, but she will provide a camp bucket type potty in a tent for privacy, for the tenters. If you have an RV, you may boondock (dry camp). $20 per night to camp (tent or RV). Weather is always unpredictable, but early April should be fairly cool and comfortable at night. She has an area to sit and cool off during the day down by the river. It is also a good kayak take-out spot.
Hotels have been booked for quite some time, and RV campgrounds will be packed. It will be very difficult to get multiple camp sites at any state park, so that our group can be together. We can go early or stay late, and kayak a beautiful stretch of the South Llano River while we’re there. Star watching should be great as the skies are very dark over Junction!

What: Camping and Exploring at Dinosaur Valley State Park
When: Wednesday May 1, 2024 – Monday May 6, 2024
Where: Park Road 59, Glen Rose, Texas
Who: TOWNies and friends
RSVP: Meetup
Details: We will gather in the electric camping area for activities such as exploring the Dino tracks, trail hikes, probably a trip into Glen Rose.
As the time nears we’ll plan specific activities. There are other nearby state parks to explore if you’re interested. There is also Dinosaur Valley RV Park across the main road that gets good Google reviews should you prefer to stay there.
This is an exploratory trip so we are open to ideas and input. We will likely plan a communal meal location TBD.
Linda lives nearby and has boondocking room if you want to come early or stay late to do some additional exploring.
Grab your site soon and we’ll see you there!
